The European Marine Casualty Information Platform (EMCIP) is an electronic information database and distribution system operated by EMSA. EMCIP disseminates information about maritime accidents and incidents. It aims to deliver a range of potential benefits at the national, European and global level:

• improve safety investigations
• wider, deeper analysis of the results of these investigations
• at-a-glance information, to enable for example general risk identification and profiling
• A compilation of 'lessons learned' from accidents, to encourage and marine casualty and incident prevention.
